Arsenal winger Ryo Miyaichi is facing an injury lay-off because of an ankle problem.

The Japan international featured in Arsenal's pre-season friendly against Chinese side Kitchee in Hong Kong on Sunday, but could only play the first half.

Following the game that finished in a 2-2 draw, Wenger revealed that the 19-year-old has been battling ankle problems.

"He had an ankle problem and we were not sure to play him," explained the Frenchman.

"We did not play him against Manchester City because he is not 100 per cent at the moment, physically.

"I think you could see that he is not at his best at the moment. I think he needs two or three more weeks work to come back to his best."

Miyaichi played on loan for Bolton Wanderers for the second half of last season.
