European football 'may not resume until September'

European football could reportedly not return until September, as the coronavirus outbreak sees leagues postponed until April at the earliest.

Football in Europe could reportedly be braced for a total shutdown until September, as the coronavirus outbreak continues to affect the sporting landscape.

The Premier League announced on Friday that all matches would be suspended until April at the earliest, following positive test results for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

All elite-level matches in England have also been postponed, and according to The Independent, European football may not return for another six months as the virus sweeps across the globe.

The report also states that UEFA are due to meet with 55 member associations on Tuesday, where they will attempt to map out an action plan for the ever-changing situation.

UEFA have already confirmed that Champions League and Europa League matches will be postponed, while La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 have all followed suit.
