AC Milan hit out at journalist and Inter Milan fan Paolo Bonolis for suggesting that referees favour them during matches.

AC Milan have dismissed allegations that they are receiving special favours from referees in an effort to finish in the top three in Serie A.

Television presenter and Inter Milan fan Paolo Bonolis told Inter Channel that he believes there is a conspiracy to help the Rossoneri gain a Champions League spot following the Nerazzurri's controversial 4-3 home defeat to Atalanta on Sunday.

"The statements of Paolo Bonolis, broadcast on Inter Channel and published on Inter's official site, apart from being without foundation appear to be exceptionally serious," reads a statement from Milan.

Milan are currently third in the league table, while Inter are eight points behind them in sixth.
