The pair will avoid bans following the Gers' win against Aberdeen.

Rangers pair Jermain Defoe and Nikola Katic will not face punishment following incidents during Sunday's win over Aberdeen.

Former England striker Defoe was involved in a first-half collision with Dons goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

The 36-year-old crashed into the Pittodrie keeper as he chased a long ball but Lewis was able to continue.

Referee Don Robertson saw the incident but only awarded a free-kick against the former Tottenham forward.

Light Blues defender Katic then hit the deck 10 minutes from the end as he was awarded his second penalty of the afternoon.

The Croatian – who was tripped by Lewis Ferguson for Gers' opening spot-kick – went down clutching his face after he was struck by Andrew Considine's flailing arm.

But his reaction infuriated Dons boss Derek McInnes, who claimed Katic "should hang his head in shame" after insisting he had "kidded" Robertson into pointing to the spot.

However, a spokesman for the Scottish Football Association has confirmed to Press Association Sport that compliance officer Clare Whyte has decided no action is required against either Defoe or Katic.

Rangers skipper James Tavernier tucked home both penalties as his side clinched second place in the Ladbrokes Premiership with a 2-0 win.
