Team GB diver Lydia Rosenthall: 'Nerves got to me'

Team GB diver Lydia Rosenthall tells Sports Mole that nerves cost her a podium place at the European Games.

Lydia Rosenthall has admitted that nerves cost her a podium place in the women's 3m event at the European Games in Baku tonight.

The 16-year-old competition entered the final off the back of a second-place finish in the earlier preliminary round, but poor scores for her third and four dives ensured that she could only finish eighth. Teammate Katherine Torrance, meanwhile, edged out Russia's Ekaterina Nekrasova for the gold medal.

"I'm a little bit upset," Rosenthall told Sports Mole afterwards. "I had an amazing prelims, coming second. It was a high expectation to dive to tonight.

"I think I was quite nervous and there was quite a lot of pressure. I just wanted to do well, but everything happens for a reason."

Russia currently sit atop the diving medals table at the Games, but Great Britain will edge ahead if Matty Lee secures gold in the final event, the men's platform.
