Jamaican diver Yona Knight-Wisdom "gutted" with final display

Jamaica's first-ever Commonwealth Games diver, Yona Knight-Wisdom, admits to Sports Mole that he was "gutted" with his last performance at Glasgow 2014.

Yona Knight-Wisdom, Jamaica's first-ever diver at a Commonwealth Games, completed his final event of Glasgow 2014 this evening and told Sports Mole that he was "gutted" with his performance in the men's 3m springboard final.

At the halfway mark of tonight's event at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh, 18-year-old Knight-Wisdom was in bronze-medal position, but poor scores, especially on his fifth and sixth dives, saw him plunge down to 11th place by the end.

He told SM after tonight's competition: "I'm definitely a little bit gutted, especially with my fifth dive (a reverse three-and-a-half somersault with tuck). It's something that I've done only done two or three times in the past in competitions.

"I brought it out here in the hope that the adrenaline rush would kick in and help me put it down. It did [in a way], it helped my start but I didn't know quite what to do at the end.

"I can't really complain though, I've had a fantastic time here and I've enjoyed the experience."

Knight-Wisdom is from Leeds and could have represented Barbados or Great Britain at international level instead, but chose Jamaica - the country of his father's birth - as it gave him more funding and meant that he had a better chance of competing internationally because he didn't have to battle strong competition for a place in the Great Britain team.
