Australia's Grant Nel delighted to win silver a day after calamitous Commonwealth dive

Grant Nel tells Sports Mole that he is "chuffed" to win a second 2014 Commonwealth Games medal after he spectacularly failed a dive yesterday.

Australian diver Grant Nel has expressed his delight at winning a second 2014 Commonwealth Games medal a day after he spectacularly crashed out of an event.

Nel returned to the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh and won silver with Matthew Mitcham in the synchronised 3m springboard after yesterday failing to qualify for the individual 3m final because of a failed four-and-a-half somersault, where he landed flat on his back.

When asked how it felt to win after his calamitous dive, Nel told Sports Mole: "I mean of course, I'm absolutely chuffed.

"To come back and see that diving board again and think 'this is my house' sort of thing, and to really want to take control of it, I really really enjoyed it. And to have Matt there next to me helping me out, it was fantastic."

Mitcham said that the pair had done "remarkably well" to finish second as they don't get to train together very often.

The silver was Nel's second medal of the Games after he claimed bronze in the 1m springboard final on Wednesday.
