Mervyn King cruises into the second round of the PDC World Championship by beating American number one Darin Young in straight sets at the Alexandra Palace.

Mervyn King cruised into the second round of the PDC World Championship on Monday night by beating American number one Darin Young.

The 14th seed recorded a three-dart average of 103.6, had a 60% success rate on doubles and dropped just one leg as he triumphed in straight sets.

Young was so heavily outscored that he did not get a shot at a double until the third leg of the second set.

King will face Ricky Evans in round two, after the 23-year-old from Kettering marked his debut at the Alexandra Palace by powering past 19th-seed Ronnie Baxter.
