Michael van Gerwen: "This feels great"

Michael van Gerwen expresses his delight at winning the Dutch Darts Masters in front of his home crowd in Veldhoven.

Michael van Gerwen has expressed his delight at winning the Dutch Darts Masters in front of his home crowd in Veldhoven.

The world champion, who lives just half an hour away from the NH Hotel Koningshof where the event was staged, picked up his first PDC European Tour title of the season by beating Mervyn King 6-4 in Sunday's final.

Van Gerwen recorded a three-dart average of 108.8 against King, who was also in fine form, averaging 107.4.

"This feels great," Van Gerwen told PDC TV. "I've played so many tournaments in Holland over the last ten years, but this is the biggest I've won here.

"The crowd were awesome and I loved the tournament, and it was a great final too.

"We both had to push ourselves to the limit and both Mervyn and myself were very good in the final, but that's what we had to do to win this tournament."

Next up for Van Gerwen is a clash with Dave Chisnall in round three of the Premier League in Belfast on Thursday night.
