Mauro Samtambrogio facing lifetime cycling ban

Italian cyclist Mauro Santambrogio faces a lifetime ban from the sport after testing positive for testosterone after already serving an 18-month suspension.

Cyclist Mauro Santambrogio is facing a lifetime expulsion from the sport after testing positive for doping when already serving a ban.

The Italian was found guilty of using blood-booster EPO at the Giro d'Italia in June of last year in an offence which saw him stripped of his mountain stage title and banned for 18 months.

However, the 30-year-old, who was permitted to ride again on November 2, tested positive for testosterone on October 22 and has been provisionally suspended.

His 18-month suspension was reduced after Santambrogio gave evidence to the Cycling Independent Reform Commission.

He was sacked by team Vini Fantini-Selle Italia upon his initial ban in 2013.
