Quinton de Kock named in South Africa squad for World Cup

Quinton de Kock is named in South Africa's squad for the World Cup as he continues his recovery from an ankle injury.

Quinton de Kock has been named in South Africa's squad for the World Cup despite still not being fully fit after an ankle injury.

An ankle ligament tear during the first Test against West Indies ruled the wicketkeeper out of the rest of the series, but the Proteas have gambled on the fitness of the 22-year-old, who has scored six centuries in 35 one-day internationals.

All-rounder JP Duminy and left-arm spin bowler Aaron Phangiso return after injuries of their own, but there is no place in the squad for either Ryan McLaren or Robin Peterson.

South Africa's captain AB de Villiers said in a statement: "It's a huge honour. I'm very confident. We know we have to keep our feet on the ground and work hard. It's a huge tournament which we have never won before and we want to bring it home."

The Proteas continue their preparations for the tournament with a five-match one-day series against the West Indies, starting on January 16.

South Africa squad: AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla (vice-captain), Kyle Abbott, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Vernon Philander, Rilee Rossouw, Dale Steyn
