Josh Poysden signs professional Warwickshire deal

Twenty-three-year-old leg-spinner Josh Poysden signs his first ever professional contract with Warwickshire.

Warwickshire have confirmed that Josh Poysden has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The leg-spinner spent last year at Edgbaston on a season-long trial basis, during which he made five Royal London One-Day Cup appearances.

Having recently lost the services of Paul Best, who announced his retirement due to injury problems, the Bears have moved to sign up Poysden as a replacement.

"Josh has made a great impression with all at the club and he has made good progress since he started working closely with Alan Richardson and Jeetan Patel," director of cricket Dougie Brown told the club's official website.

"While it was disappointing to recently lose Paul Best, it has presented Josh with an excellent opportunity to build on his appearances last summer and continue his development. We're delighted to welcome him to the professional ranks."

The 23-year-old bowler added: "I've thoroughly enjoyed being part of the squad here at Warwickshire and contributing to last season's success.

"Taking the next step to sign my first professional contract is a dream come true and I would like to thank all members of the coaching and playing staff for their support."

Playing Grade Cricket in Australia earlier this year, Poysden claimed the wicket of Michael Clarke on his comeback game ahead of the Cricket World Cup.
