India's third Test clash with Australia will now be a four-day match after rain forced play to be called off on Thursday.
The hosts took a 2-0 series lead into day one of the third Test in Mohali, but failed to add to that because of the weather.
Following heavy rain overnight, the start of the match was delayed in hope that the proceedings may brighten up with time.
Despite a short break of dry weather, the water could not be cleared quick enough and the umpires opted to cancel the day's cricket.
Play will resume tomorrow morning.
