A century from captain Andrew Strauss has put England in control after day two of the first Test against the West Indies at Lord's.
Strauss's unbeaten 121 has moved the hosts 16 runs ahead of the tourists on 259-3.
England got off to a sensational start as Stuart Broad added to yesterday's figures of 6-72 when he bowled debutant Shannon Gabriel for a golden duck to leave the Windies 243 all out.
After such a whirlwind opening, Strauss and Alastair Cook took to the crease to give the hosts a solid beginning to their first innings.
However, they lost their opening wicket of the day when Cook was bowled by Kemar Roach for 26 to leave England on 47-1.
Jonathan Trott was next up and played a typically dogged innings as England went in for lunch on 80-1.
Trott and Strauss both continued to chip away steadily at a Windies bowling attack that offered very little on an overcast afternoon in the capital and they were both rewarded with half-centuries before tea.
Trott was eventually made to walk back to the pavilion for 58 after Denesh Ramdin caught him behind off the bowling of Darren Sammy.
With Kevin Pietersen now at the crease, Strauss was greeted with a lengthy standing ovation when he completed his first century in 18 months.
Pietersen was dismissed by Marlon Samuels after a quick-fire 32 before Ian Bell moved to five not out at the close of play.
