A century partnership from Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen put England in the driving seat after day two of the second Test in India.

England bowled out India for 327 in the morning, with the hosts only able to add 61 runs to their overnight total as spinners Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar dismissed the lower order.

Cook and fellow opener Nick Compton began the tourists' innings in solid fashion before the latter fell to Pragyan Ojha for 29 with England on 66 runs.

Soon after Jonathan Trott sat back on an Ojha delivery and was given out lbw by Aleem Dar for a duck.

In came Pietersen and he mixed attack and defence well to dampen India's buoyant nature, with Cook remaining stern at the other end.

The pair played out the entire third session of the day to guide England to 178-2, 149 runs behind India. Cook is 13 runs short of his century while Pietersen is 62 not out.
