David Warner: 'Australia went too far'

David Warner says that he "went too far" with comments he made about Jonathan Trott during the first Ashes Test in Brisbane.

David Warner has admitted that he overstepped the mark with comments he made about England batsman Jonathan Trott.

The 27-year-old described the number three's two dismissals to Mitchell Johnson in the first Ashes Test as "pretty poor and pretty weak", invoking a negative response from Alastair Cook.

Australia went on to win by 381 runs, taking a 1-0 series lead with a day to spare at The Gabba.

"I made those comments for a reason," Warner, who scored a second-innings century, told reporters at Brisbane airport on Monday. "Look, yesterday, the bounce and pace got to them again.

"It is Ashes cricket. Probably went a little bit too far with the comments, but it's cricket and now it's in the back of their mind."

Aussie skipper Michael Clarke has also hit the headlines for sledging James Anderson as the Lancashire bowler prepared to face an over from Johnson.
