ECB chairman Colin Graves wants sledging-free Ashes series

England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves outlines his desire to see a sledging-free Ashes series over the course of the summer.

England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves has revealed that he wants to see The Ashes played without sledging from either side.

The series has been renowned for sledging between both sets of teams over the years, while recent incidents from Michael Clarke and Ben Stokes have seen a call for the jibes on the field to end.

Graves told Sky Sports News: "It would be nice to see it without sledging. I don't think it's needed, I don't think it's required.

"At the end of the day, everybody plays it hard and everybody plays to win. It's a game of cricket, it's not life or death, but let's play in a good spirit.

"It's down to the umpires on the pitch to make sure they control it properly to be honest and I'm sure they will."

The first Test starts next Wednesday at Sophia Gardens.
