George Bailey: 'We should avoid 5-0 series whitewash'

George Bailey is confident Australia can avoid a 5-0 One Day International series whitewash which would surrender their lead at the top of the ODI rankings.

Australia batsman George Bailey is confident he and his teammates can avoid a 5-0 One Day International series whitewash which would surrender Australia's lead at the top of the ODI rankings.

England would jump from fourth to first in the next ODI rankings only if they beat Australia 5-0 in the series which they currently lead 2-0.

Ahead of today's third ODI, Bailey has said that if the Aussies play to their potential then they can avoid the series whitewash, and has pinpointed keeping recognised batsmen in for longer as the key difference.

Quoted by Cricket365, Bailey said: "If we can play as well as we believe we can, and as well as we believe we should, then I think it will be very difficult for them to win 5-0.

"It was difficult, weighing up the balance of trying to keep wickets in hand so that we could build a bit of a platform to go hard - which England have done really well.

"That's probably been one of the differences between the sides, so you don't finish your innings seven or eight down and try to have recognised batsmen in at the end."

The third ODI takes place today at Edgbaston.
