Australia name Michael Clarke captain for World Cup

Australia include captain Michael Clarke in final 15-man squad for the World Cup despite his recent hamstring injury.

Australia have selected Michael Clarke as captain for the upcoming World Cup just weeks after he underwent surgery for a torn hamstring.

The 33-year-old suggested that his career may be over when he aggravated the injury at the start of the recent Test series against India.

However, selector Rod Marsh told reporters: "We have said that if Michael has not recovered by our second match of the tournament against Bangladesh on 21 February, we will replace him in the squad.

"He understands that and is working tirelessly with medical staff to get back to fitness. Our medical staff are pleased with his progress and he continues to undergo thorough rehabilitation work with a view to being ready to play an important role in the World Cup."

Australia will be attempting to win the tournament for a record fifth time when they jointly host the event with New Zealand next month.

Australia World Cup squad: Australia World Cup squad: Michael Clarke (capt), George Bailey (vice-capt), Patrick Cummins, Xavier Doherty, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin (wk), Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, David Warner, Shane Watson.
