Savannah Marshall "so happy" to win gold

Team England boxer Savannah Marshall reveals her delight after winning gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Team England boxer Savannah Marshall revealed her delight after winning gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games this evening.

Marshall overcame Canada's Ariane Fortin in Glasgow to secure the top prize in the women's middleweight category at the Games.

"I'm so happy after that - it's made it a lot better because of the journey I've been on," she told reporters.

"I don't really think about London - it was two years ago now. I'm happy to win a gold medal at a multi-sport event - this is a perfect springboard for the World Championships later this year.

"I think I'm far from my best - my sharpness still needs to come back but that will take time. It does send a message to my rivals that I can win when I'm not at your best but you're only as good as your last fight."

Marshall missed out on a medal at the 2012 Olympics following a shock quarter-final defeat.
