Joe Joyce: 'English boxing is getting better'

Commonwealth Games champion Joe Joyce says that England are now seen as a powerhouse country in the boxing world following their Glasgow medal haul.

Team England gold medallist Joe Joyce believes that England are now seen as a powerhouse in the boxing world.

Joyce made it five golds for England in the boxing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games by overcoming Australia's Joseph Goodall on Saturday evening.

"We are getting better as a country. Other countries are now looking to us as a danger country now alongside the likes of Russia, Cuba, Kazakhstan and countries like Ukraine," he told reporters.

Joyce also said that he felt "in control" during his final against Goodall.

"I felt in control, but he was very elusive and quite hard to hit. I found myself chasing him so it wasn't the easiest to land shots," he added.

Scott Fitzgerald, Anthony Fowler, Nicola Adams and Savannah Marshall also won golds for England.
