LeBron James has said that he does not need "extra motivation" for the NBA playoffs.

The Miami Heat face the Charlotte Bobcats in their first-round playoff series as they look to clinch their third NBA title in a row.

The four-time MVP told reporters: "I sent out a few tweets but I haven't been reading anything. I'm kind of just gearing toward locking in [tonight] and go from there. But I don't need any motivation. I don't need extra motivation. I'm motivated enough.

"This is the best part of the season, it's the best time of the year and I'm happy to be here once again.

"I think I've put together some pretty good second seasons in my career. Hopefully I can continue to do that."

The forward averaged 27.1 points per game during the regular season.
