Goldie Sayers aims to "throw a season's best"

Following her return to action, Goldie Sayers targets setting a season's best distance in the javelin at the World Athletics Championships.

British athlete Goldie Sayers has conceded that she would be happy to "throw a season's best" at the upcoming World Athletics Championships.

The javelin thrower has spent the last three years struggling with an elbow injury that hampered her chances of success at London 2012.

However, having recently returned to competitive action, the 33-year-old qualified for Beijing with a distance of 62.09m at the recent Anniversary Games.

Looking ahead to the Worlds, Sayers told the Cambridge Evening News: "It's a lot harder than when you're just competing because you've got all of your rehab work to do alongside your practice.

"Obviously I'd love to go there and win it, but if I could throw a season's best I'd be happy with that."

Sayers, who has a personal best of 66.17m, will compete in the qualifiers tomorrow.
