Haile Gebrselassie to race Great Manchester Run twice

Haile Gebrselassie will take on the Great Manchester Run twice, as he attempts to win the event for the sixth time.

Ethiopian long distance runner Haile Gebrselassie has said that he will take part in the Great Manchester Run twice on May 10.

The 41-year-old is aiming for a sixth victory over the 10km course, before heading back to the start line to join up with the mass field.

"Manchester is one of my favourite cities in the world to race in," Athletics Weekly quotes Gebrselassie as saying. "The atmosphere, the people and the organisation are all fantastic.

"This time after I have competed in the elite race on May the 10th I am going to jog round the 10k again with another wave of runners.

"It will be a unique experience for me and I look forward to meeting some of those who have cheered me on before."

Gebrselassie has won two Olympic gold medals and four World Championships during his career.
