Asli Cakir Alptekin stripped of Olympic title

Turkey's Asli Cakir Alptekin is stripped of her Olympic 1,500m title and banned for eight years for a second doping offence.

Turkish middle-distance runner Asli Cakir Alptekin has been banned for eight years and stripped of her London 2012 1,500m title after a second doping offence.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport have revealed that they have approved a settlement between Alptekin and the International Association of Athletics Federations, that will see her forfeit all results since July 29, 2010.

The 29-year-old is charged with manipulating her blood between July 29, 2010 and October 17, 2012 and will now be suspended until January 9, 2021.

The Turkish Athletics Federation had initially cleared Alptekin of any wrongdoing in December 2013, before the IAAF appealed the decision.

Alptekin was previously handed a two-year ban in 2004 after a positive doping test at the World Junior Championships.
