Shara Proctor wins bronze in long jump

England's Shara Proctor wins bronze in the women's long jump final as Canada's Christabel Nettey claims the gold.

Team England's Shara Proctor has won bronze in the women's long jump final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Proctor's fourth jump of 6.75m proved to be enough for a place on the podium, despite not participating in the final two rounds due to a suspected injury.

The 29-year-old narrowly beat compatriot Lorraine Ugen to a place on the podium, with Ugen's best jump of 6.69m coming on her final attempt after four fouls on a row.

Canada's Christabel Nettey claimed the gold, with her opening jump of 6.84m proving to be enough for the top prize.

Australia's Brooke Stratton was the only person who could have denied Nettey going into the closing stages, but the 24-year-old's final jump of 6.77m was only enough to lift her into the silver-medal position.

England's Jazmin Sawyers - silver medallist in Glasgow four years ago - could only manage a seventh-placed finish, meanwhile, after recording a best jump of 6.35m on her final attempt.
