Michael Bennett: 'Seattle Seahawks defense best of the era'

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett believes that his side's defense is the best of the modern era ahead of the NFC championship game.

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett has claimed that his side's defense is the best of the modern "era".

The Seahawks allowed the fewest points in the NFL for the third straight season, becoming the first team since the Minnesota Vikings from 1969-1971 to achieve the feat.

Bennett led his side in sacks with just seven, a third of the amount of leading pass-rusher Justin Houston of the Kansas City Chiefs, but he is adamant that those statistics count for very little in a team game.

"I think we're number one right now in our era. It's all based off era. Everybody's different," Bennett told reporters. "Right now, we feel like we're the best and we're playing the best. I feel like we're number one right now."

Bennett added: "Show me all the guys who got the sacks that are playing right now. They're all at home. You've got your JJ Watt, you've got your Mario Williams. Connor Barwin.

"Who else you got? They're all sitting at home right now watching us play. Obviously, sacks aren't that important. It's about winning. That's all that matters - how you win the game."

The Seahawks can advance to their second straight Super Bowl with a victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the NFC championship game.
