New York Jets to release Santonio Holmes?

The New York Jets will reportedly release wide receiver Santonio Holmes after four years with the team.

The New York Jets have reportedly decided to release Santonio Holmes after four years with the team.

The wide receiver previously said that he would consider taking a pay cut to remain with the AFC East side in 2014.

NBC Sports reports that the team has not been able to agree a reduced salary with the 29-year-old, who is due to earn a guaranteed $8.25m (£4.9m), and will shortly cut him from their roster.

Holmes missed the majority of the 2012 season and the start of last year with a Lisfranc injury.
