New York Jets quarterback and four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers is ruled out for the rest of the 2023-24 NFL season due to an Achilles tear.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out for the rest of the 2023-24 NFL season due to an Achilles tear.

The four-time MVP - who ended a 17-year stint with the Green Bay Packers to join the Jets for the 2023-24 season - sustained the devastating injury in his side's opener against the Buffalo Bills on Monday.

Rodgers was sacked by Leonard Floyd in his fourth offensive snap and initially rose to his feet, but he soon dropped to the turf again before being attended to by medical staff.

The 39-year-old was helped off the field at MetLife Stadium before being carted off to the locker room, as the Jets clinched a dramatic 22-16 victory in overtime.

Following an MRI scan, the worst news has been confirmed for the Jets and Rodgers, who has suffered a complete Achilles rupture in his left leg and is not expected to play again this season.

The Jets offered a message of support to the quarterback on social media following the news, saying: "Not the way any of us wanted it to go, but we know the commitment you've made to this team will continue to impact us moving forward. Get well soon, @AaronRodgers12."

Rodgers's deputy Zach Wilson will be deployed as the Jets' number one quarterback moving forward, starting with Sunday's showdown against the Dallas Cowboys.
