The New England Patriots have claimed rookie linebacker Ja'Gared Davis off waivers.

The 22-year-old, who made 301 tackles in 53 college games, was released by the Houston Texans earlier this week.

The AFC East side waived 2011 second-round draft pick Ras-I Dowling to make room for Davis on their roster.

The cornerback played in nine games during his two seasons with the Patriots, making 10 tackles.
