Miami Dolphins edge out New England Patriots

The Miami Dolphins kept their NFL playoff hopes alive with a narrow victory over the New England Patriots at Sun Life Stadium.

Ryan Tannehill got the better of Tom Brady to guide the Miami Dolphins to a four-point victory over the New England Patriots in the NFL.

The Patriots opened the scoring with a 22-yard field as Stephen Gostkowski fired a ball through the posts after Tom Brady had moved his side from their own 10-yard line to the Miami four, but they could not find the endzone as Josh Boyce failed to control the ball.

Miami had the chance to respond as Ryan Tannehill drove his side downfield and a sack from Chandler Jones looked to have knocked them out of field goal range; however, he fired to Egnew to move them back, but on the snap for the kick Brandon Fields fumbled the ball and the Patriots gathered.

The Patriots responded to rub salt in the Dolphins' wounds as Brady fired to Danny Amendola three times to move his side into the redzone, and on third and eight he shot the ball for a touchdown as tight end Michael Hoomanawanui made a one-handed grab for the score.

Miami hit back right before the end of the half when Tannehill dropped back in the pocket and drilled the ball to Mike Wallace, who then grabbed over Marquice Cole and broke the tackle to run into the endzone for the 39-yard touchdown.

After the break, the Patriots had the chance to extend their lead with a 48-yard field goal but Gostkowski skewed his kick wide of the posts.

The Dolphins then levelled things up taking the ball downfield to get a field goal of their own through Sturgis.

Miami took the lead as Tannehill hit on several completions to move his side into the redzone and then he fooled the Patriots with a fake endaround and lifted a pass to Daniel Thomas, who went in for a four-yard score.

The Patriots came back with a field goal through the boot of Gostkowski from 23 yards and minutes later went ahead. Brady found Edelman on a crossing route over the middle of the field and he skipped through a couple of tackles to go in for a 24-yard score.

However, a mistake from Gostkowski handed the Dolphins a short field and a fourth-down conversion from Charles Clay helped them move downfield, as Marcus Thigpen collected a pass from Tannehill to run in for the 12-yard score.

Brady drove his side downfield late on with time running out to try to win the game, but his pass to Austin Collie was intercepted in the endzone by Michael Thomas.
