The Green Bay Packers have confirmed that they have fired special teams coordinator Shawn Slocum.
The Packers spurned a chance to compete in the Super Bowl as they blew a 16-point half-time lead against the Seattle Seahawks due to two breakdowns on special teams in their loss in the NFC championship game.
Seattle faked a field goal as punter Jon Ryan found tackle Garry Gilliam for a touchdown, and Brandon Bostick fumbled an onside kick with two minutes remaining to allow the Seahawks to steal possession.
"I would like to thank Shawn for all of his contributions over the past nine years," head coach Mike McCarthy told the club's official website.
"He was a positive contributor to our success, including helping us win Super Bowl XLV. We wish Shawn, Michelle and their family the best moving forward."
Slocum had been with the Packers since 2006.
