John Carlson announces retirement from the NFL

Arizona Cardinals tight end John Carlson confirms that he has retired from the NFL after seven seasons in the league with three different teams.

Arizona Cardinals tight end John Carlson has announced his retirement from the NFL after seven seasons in the league.

The 30-year-old was selected in the second round of the 2008 Draft by the Seattle Seahawks and played for the NFC West side for four seasons before moving to the Minnesota Vikings.

Carlson struggled to make an impact for the Vikings and as a result was released and signed with the Cardinals, where he spent just one season before deciding to end his career.

"After much thought and consideration, my wife Danielle and I know that this is best decision for us," Carlson told the club's official website.

"I was blessed to play seven seasons in the NFL for three tremendous organisations - the Cardinals, Vikings and Seahawks. I will always treasure the experiences and relationships made during that time but I'm also very excited about the next phase of my life and what's ahead."

Carlson recorded 210 receptions for 2,256 yards and 15 touchdowns in his seven seasons in the NFL.
