USA snowboarder Shaun White misses out on medal

Shaun White misses out on a medal in the snowboard half-pipe final and finishes fourth.

United States snowboarder Shaun White, the favourite for the half-pipe competition, has been edged out of the medals in the final.

Despite cruising through the qualifiers with the highest score, White crashed in his first run before managing only the fourth-highest attempt on his second attempt.

The gold medal went to Switzerland's Iouri Podladtchikov, who got everything right in his second run to get the high score of 94.75.

His teammate David Habluetzel was edged out of the medals by the two Japanese boarders Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka, who took silver and bronze respectively.

White's compatriots Danny Davis and Gregory Bretz did not manage a complete run in the final and finished 10th and 12th respectively.
