USA's Ted Ligety wins gold in giant slalom

Ligety wins gold for USA

United States skier Ted Ligety has won gold in the men's giant slalom at the Winter Olympics this afternoon.

The 29-year-old, who came into the Sochi Games as the world champion, clocked 2:45.29 across his two runs.

France's Steve Missilier finished 0.48 seconds behind to take the silver medal, while his compatriot Alexis Pinturault claimed bronze with a time of 2:45.93.

Ligety's teammate Bode Miller finished in 20th place.
