Team USA competitor criticises Sochi snowboard course

Team USA snowboarder Shaun White calls on Sochi organisers to improve the standard of the half-pipe event course.

Team USA competitor Shaun White has called on Sochi organisers to improve the standard of the snowboard course.

The men's half-pipe competition, which is due to get underway later today at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, has been criticised by two-time Olympic gold medal winner White after his initial trial run.

"It's hard to get in there and have all the tricks and have everything that you need and not be able to get to the wall" the 27-year-old is quoted as saying by the Washington Post. "I just had a frustrating practice and I'm hoping tomorrow will be better."

When asked if there was any chance of the riders protesting, White said: "I don't know the exact plan. I'm sure there will be some sort of coaches meeting or something. I don't really get involved in that.

"I'm hoping they can do whatever they can to make it a better pipe. It's hard to get here and see this and feel the pressure. I don't know."

The men's snowboarding event begins this morning.
