Emma Lonsdale: 'Great Britain is going to be strong'

Freestyle skier Emma Lonsdale feels that Great Britain have the talent available to have a good medal haul in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Emma Lonsdale believes that Great Britain have a good chance of collecting a lot of medals at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Team GB has been widely tipped to perform well in several new events in the Games, including freestyle skiing, but the 29-year-old is wary that the sport can be very unpredictable.

Lonsdale told the Westmorland Gazette: "We have definitely got some medal potential and quite a few athletes who could get on the podium, but at the same time you have to realise that anybody can have a bad day.

"With the inclusion of the new sports, Britain is going to be strong but these sports are so unpredictable one tiny little edge catch can have you on your bum before you even realise anything has happened."

The Olympics get underway later today with the snowboarding slopestyle event.
