Jon Eley selected as Team GB flagbearer

Jon Eley is chosen to lead Team GB as the flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Short track speed skater Jon Eley has been named as the flagbearer for Team GB to lead them out at the opening ceremony for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

The 29-year-old is participating in his third Olympic Games, and he has admitted that it is an "unbelievable honour" to be selected to lead his teammates out in Sochi on Friday.

Eley told the Team GB official website: "To be representing Team GB for my third time is a great honour and being selected as the flagbearer has made it unbelievable.

"Carrying the flag I hope will not only be a very proud moment for my wife, my family and myself, but also my teammates across Team GB who have all made a massive contribution to my career, and my sport.

"It is an amazing privilege and a moment that I will treasure for the rest of my life, and I plan to use this opportunity to fuel my ambitions in competition and encourage my teammates to be their best."

Eley finished just outside the medal positions in his two previous Games in Torino and Vancouver.
