Elise Christie: 'Talking unnerves my competitors'

Great Britain short track speed skater Elise Christie believes that she unnerves her competitors by talking to them before their races.

Great Britain short track speed skater Elise Christie has revealed that her relaxed nature before she competes can unnerve her fellow competitors.

The 23-year-old will compete in three distance events 500m, 1,000m, 1,500m, and is backed to finish in a medal position for Team GB in Sochi.

"A lot of people just sit there in the zone, and I generally will go up and talk to them," Christie told BBC Sport.

"I think that makes them think I'm not very nervous. 'Oh God, she's fine.' And it's because I am fine. I mean, what's going to happen on the ice is going to happen. I can't do much about it. So I just chat to them about other stuff."

Christie will compete in the quarter-finals of the 500m later today.
