John Baines "proud" of bobsleigh performance

Team GB bobsleigh competitor John Baines says that he is "proud" of the team's performances in Sochi.

Great Britain bobsleigh competitor John Baines has said that he is "proud" of the team's performances at the Winter Olympics.

The 28-year-old, who filled in for Craig Pickering in the two-man event with Lamin Deen, helped the second British team finish 19th in the four-man event, while the number one crew came fifth.

Baines told the York Evening Press: "We always want to be within a tenth of the world's best on the start. That was our aim and we met it. To say that we are within a tenth of the world's best is absolutely amazing.

"Andy has stepped in over the last few weeks and really stepped up to the mark and competed against the best in the world and done really well. We are all proud.

"The Royal Air Force have given me the support to come out here and compete. Now I have got the British Championships and the Inter Service Championships."

Baines finished 23rd in the two-man event.
