Yuzuru Hanyu collects record points to maintain Sochi dream

Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan is in pole position to win gold in the men's individual short programme in Sochi.

Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu has taken the lead in the men's individual short programme at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

The 19-year-old finished Thursday's round with a world-record score of 101.45 points at the Iceberg Skating Palace and will head into Friday's free skate with almost a four-point lead over Patrick Chan of Canada.

Hanyu, who performed to 'Parisian Walkways', became the first ever skater to top the 100-point mark in an International Skating Union event.

Javier Fernandez is currently third in the standings with 86.98, while Hanyu's compatriot Daisuke Takahashi is 0.58 points behind the Spaniard in fourth.
