Kazakhstan athlete sets new Olympic record

Kazakhstan's Maiya Maneza wins gold in the women's 63kg weightlifting final.

Kazakhstan's Maiya Maneza has won the women's 63kg weightlifting gold medal after a dominant performance in the final.

The 26-year-old set a new Olympic record with a total of 245kg, as she saw off the challenge of Svetlana Tsarukaeva, who took silver.

The Russian was 8kg adrift on 237kg, and she pushed Canadian Christine Girald into bronze by 1kg.

After the win had been confirmed, Maneza did attempt a world record attempt by raising the weight by 9kg, but she was forced to be content with the victory.
