Maria Sharapova battles back in Singapore

Maria Sharapova overcomes a one-set deficit to beat Agnieszka Radwanska in the WTA Championships.

Maria Sharapova opened up her WTA Championships campaign with a 4-6 6-3 6-4 victory over Agnieszka Radwanska in Singapore this afternoon.

It seemed that former world number one Sharapova, who had not completed a game since Wimbledon in July, would suffer a defeat when she lost the first set in 57 minutes.

However, the Russian responded positively in the second and third sets to win through.

Speaking during her post-match interview, Sharapova said: "This is my first completed match since July. It's a pretty big deal for me."

She will now take on either Flavia Pennetta or Simona Halep in her second group encounter.
