Dominika Cibulkova beats Angelique Kerber to win WTA Finals

Dominika Cibulkova claims a 6-3 6-4 victory over Angelique Kerber in the final of the WTA Finals in Singapore.

Dominika Cibulkova has defeated world number one Angelique Kerber in straight sets to claim victory at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

The tournament debutant came out on top 6-3 6-4 in a time of just under 80 minutes to earn the biggest win of her career to date.

Kerber, who had earlier defeated her opponent in the round-robin phase of the end-of-season competition, fell three games down in the opening set before quickly recovering.

Having broken the serve of Cibulkova in the fifth game to claw herself back into the opener, Kerber failed to hold and found herself a set down and on her way to a crushing defeat.

The Australia and US Open champion would see her season end on a low note of sorts as Cibulkova forced the only break of serve in the second set, coming in the seventh game, before getting over the line with her fourth match point to win the title.
