Week two of the Australian Open saw the business end of the tournament begin with a series of hard-fought battles at Melbourne Park.

Svetlana Kuznetsova edged a tight fourth-round clash with Caroline Wozniacki to set up a quarter-final match against defending champion Victoria Azarenka, who proved too strong for Eelena Vesnina.

American teenager Sloane Stephens kept her breakthrough run alive, while there was also a win for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in his encounter with compatriot Richard Gasquet.
