Great Britain's Andy Murray has said that it was "nice" to have Roger Federer in the crowd during his first-round match at the Olympics.

Federer was watching Murray take on Swiss compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka, whom the Scot defeated in straight sets.

Speaking of Federer's presence, Murray, 25, said: "It was nice. It was the first time I will have played in front of Roger, apart of when I've been on the other side of the net to him.

Roger himself will tell you that when he plays, when someone like Rod Laver or [Pete] Sampras, [Bjorn] Borg, those sort of guys are watching you, makes it a bit more of an occasion, makes it a bit more special.

"I have huge amounts of respect for what Roger's been able to do [for tennis]. So, yeah, it was nice, nice having him come to watch. I didn't feel any more or less pressure. It was just nice to see him watching."

Murray's next opponent in his bid for gold is Finland's Jarkko Nieminen, whom he faces tomorrow at SW19.
