Andy Murray seals spot in quarter-finals of Shanghai Masters

Murray moves into Shanghai final eight

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has grabbed a spot in the quarter-finals of the Shanghai Masters with a straight-sets victory over Lucas Pouille.

The Scotsman, who is attempting to snatch the world number one ranking from Novak Djokovic before the end of the season, overcame his opponent 6-1 6-3 in one hour and 19 minutes.

Fresh from his victory at the China Open, Murray eased through his second-round match against Steve Johnson earlier this week.

Today, the 29-year-old earned an early double break in the first set against Pouille, who tried to match his competitor but came up short.

Murray carried his momentum into the second set by breaking Pouille's serve at the first time of asking before wrapping it up with another break point.
