Isner sees off Goffin in Shanghai

John Isner has booked a place in the third round of the Shanghai Masters following a 6-3 7-6[5] victory over David Goffin in China.

Goffin was forced to defend early in the first set as Isner had two chances to break at the start of the first set, but the Belgian managed to hold him off.

Games went by the way serve until Isner broke to take a 5-3 lead and then he managed to take the set on his third set point.

The second set was a tight affair as neither player created a break point throughout normal play, meaning that a tie-break was needed to separate the two.

It was advantage Isner as he broke to go 3-2 up in the breaker, but Goffin broke back immediately to level things up 3-3.

Eventually, the American was able to clinch the tie-break 7-5 to claim the set and the match.
