Tommy Haas safely through at Shanghai Masters

Tommy Haas has reached the second round of the Shanghai Masters with a straight-sets victory over Sam Querrey.

The German veteran, who is seeded 11th, broke instantly in the opening set on his way to taking it 6-4 against the American world number 31.

He then made the breakthrough late on in the second before closing out the match 6-4 with just over an hour on the clock.

Haas will now face either Alejandro Falla or Daniel Brands for a place in round three.
