Kyle Edmund breaks into world top 50

Britain's Kyle Edmund broke into the world top 50 ahead of a first-round win over Federico Delbonis at the Shanghai Masters.

The 21-year-old, who is now 48th in the ATP rankings, sealed a 6-3 5-7 6-4 victory in two hours and eight minutes.

Edmund went an early break up, and despite Delbonis preventing set point on his own serve, he was unable to save the set.

It was a tight affair in the second set as games went by the way of serve, with neither competitor creating a break point until the 12th game.

It was Delbonis who struck at the right time to give himself the set, but Edmund bounced back instantly by snatching serve at the first time of asking in the third.

That single break point was enough for the Brit to seal a place in the second round.
